SIR Dayton Recap
Dayton, Ohio-Sudden Impact Racing’s Amsoil Shock Therapy was on hand in Dayton to tame the concrete jungle that is the Nutter Center’s Thunder Nationals course, and with great support, did just that. It was an all-around effort that will not soon be forgotten in Ohio; as usual, Amsoil Shock Therapy made its mark on the event.
In a three-show weekend, it is an endurance battle for both driver and truck, and both were up to the task. After some initial mechanical issues, the crew worked hard and had Amsoil Shock Therapy running in peak condition, turning in outstanding runs at the Saturday afternoon and evening shows. Driver Jon Zimmer proved once again that he is a top competitor on the monster truck circuit, immediately planting the tailgate of the truck into the cars in the wheelie contest.
The crew removed one bedside from the truck, and Zimmer promptly defeated Grave Digger in racing, eventually losing narrowly in the semifinals. Amsoil Shock Therapy was ready for freestyle, and the truck became a red, white, and blue blur during its time on the track, hitting every obstacle from every angle with massive air, and even a slap wheelie in the tight confines of the arena, something no other driver accomplished. Zimmer emerged from the truck to a roar of approval from the appreciative crowd, and with no damage to speak of, moved on to the evening show.
The wheelie contest has long been one of Amsoil Shock Therapy’s specialties, and this particular event was a special one, even by the highest of standards. Jon Zimmer simply launched Amsoil Shock Therapy into the stratosphere, landing the truck well past vertical, punching a hole in the fuel cell, and somehow landing back on all fours after a 120-degree wheelie! A bit of engine trouble and the aforementioned hole in the fuel cell would stop things for the night, but not without a hands-down winner for wheelie of the year award in the Sudden Impact Racing camp.
“We enjoyed Dayton after we ironed out a few things, and I felt like we had some great runs all around. I couldn’t have rotated any faster in the donut competition, and my freestyle felt pretty crazy all weekend too. Now, it’s time for more!”
There is never a dull moment in the Sudden Impact Racing camp, and Amsoil Shock Therapy proved that once again. Stay tuned for more information on the team’s future travels; it will be a busy second quarter of 2012!
