Sudden Impact Racing Debuts New Talent, Continuing Winning Tradition

Contributed by: Ross Bonar

(Jefferson, Louisiana) – After a major team restructuring following the completion of first quarter, many fans wondered if Sudden Impact Racing would be able to continue its winning tradition. Following several weeks of competition with the new look team, the answer to that question is a resounding yes. Let us to introduce you to the new team at Sudden Impact Racing and recap their first few weeks behind the wheel.

We are excited to welcome the new wheelman of the high profile Amsoil Shock Therapy ride, Jeremy Brady of Stringer, Mississippi. Brady made waves in the monster truck industry earlier in 2012 when he purchased the legendary 1957 Chevrolet Casper truck from Dale Harris and restored the truck to its original beauty.

After meeting team owner Brandon Lagarde, Brady got the call to drive the 2-time World Finalist Amsoil truck.

The new beginning for Sudden Impact Racing kicked off as the Monster Truck Racing Super Series made its annual stop at Fort Smith, Arkansas’ Kay Rodgers Park.

With strong competition from the Monster Truck Mafia’s Devin Jones and Barbarian, along with Greg & Zach Adams and their beautiful Bar’s Leaks Eliminator and Rislone Defender rides, Sudden Impact Racing had their work cut out for them. The Redcat Racing Ground Pounder and Amsoil Shock Therapy made strong runs in all competitions. The highlight was Sudden Impact Racing’s return to victory lane both nights, marching through the brackets to a complete sweep of the weekend’s side-by-side straight line drag racing competitions.

Syracuse, NY-Sudden Impact Racing’s Amsoil Shock Therapy took a solo trip to the Carrier Dome for a huge televised Monster Jam show and played a big role in the event, immediately making its presence felt in racing, then carrying the momentum into a spectacular freestyle run.

Those that have been following the Amsoil Shock Therapy team all season know to expect a well-balanced attack from driver Jon Zimmer, and Syracuse proved that statement true. Zimmer breezed through the racing brackets, making it all the way to the final four trucks in racing with Amsoil Shock Therapy before losing a close race.

With a great start to the night, Amsoil Shock Therapy was looking for more in freestyle. After a broken shock in the first part of his run, Zimmer refused to give up, blasting Amsoil Shock Therapy over, around, and through everything on the track despite the truck’s impaired condition. There is something to be said for getting the most out of your truck no matter what the circumstances, and that something came out in the huge ovation Amsoil Shock Therapy got when Zimmer emerged from the truck after his freestyle run.

“We love performing for the fans,” said Zimmer. “It makes our long nights and early mornings worth it. I feel like we’ve been having a very good year, and have plenty of momentum for the next event.”

That next event is in Dayton, Ohio starting tonight. Stay tuned for more!

Winning in Wichita

ground pounder monster truckWichita Falls, Texas-Sudden Impact Racing’s Redcat Racing Ground Pounder and Michigan Ice Monster took Wichita Falls by the horns and came away with even more victories, continuing a string of racing victories that has added up quickly. Redcat Racing Ground Pounder was able to pick up two donut contest victories as well as two more racing wins to add to the growing list of accomplishments for the team.

“I couldn’t be happier with how the weekend went,” said driver Chris Ryan. “It’s been great to take these racing wins; I love being first to the line!”

Indeed, winning is always a confidence booster, and Michigan Ice Monster pushed Redcat Racing Ground Pounder all weekend.

“I am just happy when our trucks are in the winner’s circle, and ideally, we want them to finish first and second every weekend,” said driver Chris Lagana. “Redcat Racing Ground Pounder is on a roll, and I can’t wait til Harrisburg in a couple weeks to try and take him out!”

The action only gets hotter from here, as after the aforementioned week off, it’s right back to business for Sudden Impact Racing. Stay tuned for more!

Indianapolis Mayhem

Indianapolis, Indiana-Sudden Impact Racing’s Amsoil Shock Therapy and Amsoil Excaliber emerged from Indianapolis with another successful weekend in the books, with plenty of excitement and fan memories made.

Racing was first on the agenda for both trucks, and they would face off in round one, with Amsoil Shock Therapy getting the victory over Amsoil Excaliber, but blowing a tire in the process.

“I hate it when we go against each other,” said Amsoil Shock Therapy driver Jon Zimmer. “The nice thing is that one of us moves on, but ideally, we want to meet in the finals!”

Amsoil Shock Therapy would take the win but suffer tire problems, and both trucks would have to wait until freestyle to get the job done.

Mike Barnes took Amsoil Excaliber to the track and promptly attacked everything on the course with a flurry of diverse moves that left the crowd cheering for more. Excaliber ran past its alotted time and finished with a nice set of donuts, then Barnes emerged to a roar of approval from the crowd.

After that, it was Amsoil Shock Therapy time. Zimmer had borrowed a tire to ensure nothing would stand in the way of an outstanding freestyle for the Amsoil/Sudden Impact Racing truck, and he delivered the goods, putting down an outstanding run that included cross-thread hits on the biggest obstacles on the track, insane momentum, saves, a blast through a motor home on the track, and gigantic leaps all over the floor. Amsoil Shock Therapy capped things off by nearly levitating during a cyclone donut, leaving no doubt as to who the standout truck and run from the event would be.

“I didn’t get the score that I wanted, but I had several people telling me after the show that I should have won it,” said Zimmer. “What matters to me is that the fans are happy, and I can hold my head high at the end of the day when I hear those cheers.”

Indeed, with a memorable run in the books, the fans roared for Amsoil Shock Therapy and left buzzing about the truck’s performance. Amsoil Shock Therapy and Amsoil Excaliber will look to capitalize on that momentum this weekend in Syracuse, New York for another stellar event. Stay tuned for more!

Wins in Richmond and OKC

Richmond, Virginia-Sudden Impact Racing’s Amsoil Shock Therapy and Amsoil Excaliber rode all the way to Richmond for a busy three-show weekend and pushed their limits constantly and picking up a few wins along the way.

Any time there is a quick turnaround from one show to the next, attention to detail and dedication to the craft are two things required from a successful team. Sudden Impact Racing shined in both areas.

Amsoil Excaliber made an appearance in the final round of racing, narrowly losing, and with a fill-in driver at that—veteran Mike Barnes took the wheel.

“It’s great to have a two-truck attack every weekend, and I was happy to fill in driving the Amsoil Excaliber,” he said.

Amsoil Shock Therapy was able to pick up two wheelie contest wins and a donut victory as well. Both of these competitions require great timing and skill, along with the right equipment, like Scorpion Racing Engines and Sudden Impact Racing tires. Amsoil Shock Therapy had all of the above, and two-time World Finals competitor Jon Zimmer was happy about it.

“I was satisfied with the runs that I made in everything, and sometimes the numbers don’t fall your way,” said Zimmer. “I want to win badly, more than anyone I think. We owe it to our fans to put on the best performance we can.”

After giving the fans a show for the ages in Richmond, the team travels on to Indianapolis, Indiana for one of the biggest shows all season. We will keep you posted!

Oklahoma City, Oklahoma-Sudden Impact Racing’s Redcat Racing Ground Pounder and Michigan Ice Monster kept the streak alive, enjoying another racing triumph this weekend to follow up from their dominance last weekend.

Young gun Chris Ryan in Redcat Racing Ground Pounder was too quick for the field at the conclusion of the three-show weekend, blowing by everyone en route to a big win for the team.

“I love winning racing,” said Ryan. “It’s the true test of driver skill—no scoring, just you and the line. When you’re the quickest one to it, it’s a great feeling.”

Michigan Ice Monster’s Chris Lagana put forth solid efforts all weekend without mishap, showing the fans his improvement over the year. While he didn’t pick up any victories, the experience gained is vital.

“I didn’t get the wins, but the truck drove into the trailer in one piece and we made plenty of new fans here,” said Lagana. “I drive for the fans and for Sudden Impact Racing, and if I’ve made both of them happy, I’ve done my job.”

Wichita Falls, Texas is next on the agenda for the team, and we will have all the coverage right here for you soon.
