Below is a quote from Sean Duhon on the history-making run:
“After running the truck with 12 pounds of air in the SIR monster truck tires, it was found that more air was needed, so we went up till we found that 30 pounds was the best fit for this run. The Overkill truck was run approximately four times in the eighth mile, but would not go over 76 miles per hour, so it was decided to go for it all and hang on for the entire quarter mile! As the owner/driver Kirk Dabney crossed the traps, the drag strip timing equipment at No Problem Raceway in Belle Rose, Louisiana lit up 84.92 mph, which would be the new record! The truck had an obvious motor issue when crossing the traps, which was proof that this was only the beginning to a much faster run.”
Big thanks to Sean Duhon and Ben Winslow for the update, and congratulations to Kirk Dabney on setting the new record! Reports are that the SIR tires held up wonderfully even at such high speeds, proof positive that they are some of the best tires on the market!
News from Cincinnati’s show tonight, and it’s of the winning variety! Jon Zimmer drove AMSOIL Shock Therapy to the wheelie contest win to kick off the weekend in Cincinnati, Ohio for Checkered Flag Productions, while Chris “Panda” Ryan broke a blower belt. Both trucks were 100% for freestyle though, and it showed. Ryan put Excaliber through its paces in his first time in a smaller arena and got a solid run in as the first truck out. When the dust settled after Zimmer’s run in AMSOIL Shock Therapy, he had tied for the win with Bounty Hunter! Overall, a great night one for Zimmer and Ryan, and they will look to repeat it tomorrow night at the Cincinnati Gardens. Photos and more information will be online soon, along with a very special update from the other half of the SIR stable! Stay tuned!
Sean Duhon and Ben “Bobo” Winslow brought home first and second place in the SMTS points, helped by their dominating weekend in Mississippi. After rebuilding the trucks from the ground up in a short amount of time, the team made the most out of their trip to Mississippi. Duhon stiffened the shocks on Cult Energy Activator up a bit to be able to go bigger during freestyle, and that combined with new engines and transmissions in both trucks enabled them to take Mississippi by storm.
“We got everything upgraded on Cult Energy Activator and Sudden Impact just in time to make it out to Mississippi, but everything ended up great,” said Bobo. “We both felt good in the trucks, and we were taken care of with the equipment we got.”
Along with the other updates Bobo’s Sudden Impact truck received, a new shock setup with reverse accumulator was tried, and the truck lands “100% better,” according to Duhon.
“We’ll test Sudden Impact and Cult some more, but we’re both really happy with how things went,” said Bobo.
Duhon would take the wheelie contest win on Friday, while Bobo swept through the brackets and won racing. In freestyle, Duhon would just edge out Bobo for the victory in a crowd cheer-off. Saturday, Duhon was able to sweep racing and freestyle, and after the points were tallied, Duhon was declared champion!
“It was a great weekend for our team,” Duhon said. “This SMTS points deal has gone on since April, and it’s great to win it, but I didn’t do it by myself. I want to thank Brandon Lagarde, Bobo, our crew at home, and the entire SIR team for all their support and help! We really appreciate it.”
We will have media from the event online as soon as possible!
Meanwhile, in Jacksonville, Texas, AMSOIL Shock Therapy and Excaliber took to the track, and more success followed. Jon Zimmer was able to pick up the racing victory on Friday, and both trucks posted solid freestyle efforts despite a little bit of engine trouble on Excaliber. The huge ATV park in Jacksonville played host to a large straight line racing course, and Zimmer put AMSOIL Shock Therapy in the winner’s circle.
“It was a fun show, ” said Zimmer. “It was great to take the win for SIR and AMSOIL, and we have some more work to do here coming soon.”
The work Zimmer speaks of includes he and Chris “Panda” Ryan taking Shock Therapy and Excaliber to Cincinnati for next weekend’s big Checkered Flag Productions show, then tearing into both trucks and freshening them up for 2010.
Dallas Rogers was kind enough to update us on what’s going on with the team right now in Louisiana. Thanks, Dallas:
After a winning weekend in Killeen, Texas, the Amsoil Shock Therapy, Cult Energy Activator, Excaliber, and Sudden Impact team headed back to the shop in New Orleans to rebuild and prep for the first quarter of 2010. The Sudden Impact and Cult Energy Activator trucks were stripped of their fiberglass bodies, engines, transmissions, shocks, and everything until both trucks were bare frames.
The engines and transmissions were shipped off and the rebuild began. Over the past few weeks, CULT energy drinks have been keeping Sean, Bobo, Kenneth, and I full of energy as we have been going through every nut and bolt and cleaning every part of the trucks. With lots of work, the trucks have begun to look closer to complete monster trucks again. The trucks received many new parts and have had their chassis repainted. The Cult Energy Activator received brand new lexan panels all around the truck to help driver Sean Duhon to see out of the cab of the truck.
The team recently got a huge shipment of 44 brand new SIR brand monster truck tires. With the help of Keith from Chiller Specialties, the team unloaded two sea containers of tires and organized them by the serial number each Sudden Impact tire has.
Both trucks are being thoroughly rebuilt to be as competitive as possible for the team’s full schedule! The team is excited as the trucks get closer to completion. The engines and transmissions are soon going into the trucks, and then the trucks will be ready for the fiberglass bodies. The trucks will be ready for their next show in Forest, Mississippi for the Southern Monster Truck Showdown on November 13th and 14th. All of us at SIR are confident that AMSOIL products and all our great sponsors will push our team to another winning season in 2010.
